I am a cardiologist specializing in the care of individuals with cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and conduction system abnormalities (a problem with the electrical system that makes your heart beat), with a focus on atrial fibrillation.
My expertise also includes the management of implantable devices (such as pacemakers and defibrillators) and cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with a cardiac device who require non-cardiac pharmacologic or invasive treatment.

In recent decades, research has yielded new diagnostic and therapeutic pharmacologic and invasive therapies that have significantly improved outcomes for individuals with cardiologic issues. The past decade saw an explosion of transcatheter therapeutics that treat structural heart diseases such as valvulopathies with minimally invasive percutaneous approaches. These therapies have been at the forefront of cardiology, providing patients an alternative to open heart surgery. This is particularly important for high-risk patients with active cancer or a history of cancer because these patients are higher risk for cardiovascular complication during surgery.
We have also seen an explosion of heart failure therapies. These therapies can be very useful for patients with cancer who are receiving certain immunotherapies and other cancer treatments associated with cardiomyopathies. Last but not least, the field of cardiac arrhythmias has experienced a boom in risk stratification, therapies, and remote monitoring methods. This is particularly important for patients with cancer, as cancer therapies and surgeries often trigger such arrhythmias, which can have a significant adverse effect on patient quality of life and prognosis.
I was drawn to cardiology because it is a fascinating, highly developed field of medicine that can affect patients of all ages. I am motivated to contribute to the field’s further development through patient-centered research that holds the power to bring forth new therapies and treatment approaches. My research specifically focuses on the impact and management of cardiac arrhythmias after surgery, as well as sex-specific cardiovascular outcomes in individuals with structural and coronary disease.
Each year, I care for more than 1,000 patients with cardiovascular disease, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and conduction system abnormalities. My patients always want to know the truth about their cardiac condition: how it will affect their daily life, their prognosis, and how proposed therapies might improve their quality of life. In my many years of working with patients with cardiac conditions, I have found that when patients are fully engaged in their care plan, they work with their healthcare providers as partners. As such, the mentality that we are a team working toward the same objective — resolution of their individual cardiac issue — has been a cornerstone of my care approach and establishing this dynamic with my patients, imperative to my care philosophy. I make it my mission to make my patients feel seen and heard at each stage of the treatment process; they are collaborators in their care journey, not bystanders.
I am passionate about caring for people with cardiac disease but also have a special love for classical music. Outside of the clinic, I can be found playing the piano and attending concerts at the Metropolitan Opera (which has become something of a second home for me) and New York’s other music halls. When I am not indulging my interest in classical music, I’m likely watching football or tennis, or driving my teenage son to play in his own football and tennis games.
