Board Certifications

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology; Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine

I am a board-certified pathologist and a specialist in blood-banking and transfusion medicine. I am also focused on cellular therapy. This involves using collected human cells to treat cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, as well as certain non-cancerous conditions where blood stem cell transplantation is an effective treatment.

As Assistant Director for the Cell Therapy Laboratory, my work entails supporting the rapidly growing clinical service as well as the apheresis and donor room sections at MSK. I assist in the medical and operational oversight to ensure that all manufacturing processes and procedures meet the most stringent regulatory and quality standards. In addition, I assist in ensuring effective communication between the clinical and laboratory services from the time of a cell collection to infusion of the final product into the patient.

As an assistant director in Transfusion Medicine I work to ensure the safety of donors and blood products collected in the donor room, as well as the safety of patients who receive transfusions at MSK. I am also continuously working to improve patient blood management. Finally, I supervise and oversee therapeutic apheresis, including therapeutic plasma exchange, cytapheresis, and extracorporeal photopheresis.

I am working on research collaborations with my colleagues within the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the Bone Marrow Transplant Service. Some of these projects include ways to optimize Hematopoietic Progenitor Cell (HPC) collection protocols as well as the use of flow cytometry analysis for better HPC product characterization.
