The Pharmacy Department at Memorial Sloan Kettering recognizes the value and need for a pediatric oncology specialty residency for pharmacists seeking a career in pediatric oncology practice.
Purpose
PGY2 pharmacy residency training builds on the foundations of pharmacy practice established during Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and the PGY1 pharmacy residency experience. The MSK PGY2 oncology residency provides residents with a 12 month learning experience that prepares them to function independently as a clinical pharmacy practitioner in oncology, to serve as a fully integrated member of a multi-disciplinary team, and to optimize medications used in the provision of cancer care. Residents who successfully complete a PGY2 oncology pharmacy residency at MSK will possess competencies that prepare them for future clinical, research or academic positions, leadership roles in oncology, and board certification in oncology pharmacy.
The Pediatric Oncology Specialty Residency provides advanced training in clinical therapeutics for the pediatric cancer patient. The main objectives of the training program at MSK Kids are to help residents:
- Establish a firm knowledge base in pediatric cancer conditions, treatment options, antineoplastic pharmacology, and pharmacokinetics
- Optimize outcomes in pediatric cancer patients through evidence-based, patient-centered medication therapy as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team
- Foster clinical problem-solving skills
- Provide an introduction to clinical research

Elective Rotations
During the two months of elective rotations, residents may repeat a previous rotation, begin a new rotation as approved by the program director or choose from the following rotations:
- Adult Oncology
- Early Drug Development
- Infectious Disease
- Long Term Follow-Up (Survivorship)
- Pain and Palliative
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Eligibility
- Successful completion of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program
- Successful completion of an ASHP-accredited or candidate-status PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
- Eligibility for pharmacist licensure in New York State (residents are required to obtain pharmacist licensure in the State of New York)
- Completion of an on-site or virtual interview
- Interview in the Personal Placement Service (PPS) at ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (encouraged, not required)
