As a premier comprehensive cancer center, Memorial Sloan Kettering is often approached by the media and other groups interested in finding out information and working with and interviewing our staff. Each request is evaluated on a case-by-case basis by a media relations team member in the Department of Marketing & Communications and with appropriate administrative, clinical, and research staff.
Our goal is to work with journalists to provide the public with timely information about cancer and the important work do at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Media staff members are always available to discuss and consider requests such as the following:
- Expert interviews and photographs for publication or broadcast
- Information about Memorial Sloan Kettering or its staff
- Participation in book projects , documentaries, or films
- Patient information, interviews, and photographs
From Community Organizations
- Participation in local events, including cancer awareness activities, community lectures, health fairs, and fund-raisers
- Promotion of our staff’s involvement in local events
From Public Relations, Advertising, and Entertainment Industry Representatives
- Participation in media outreach, or other communications activities to ensure that our brand identity is presented appropriately and other compliance policies are followed
- Use of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s name, brand or expert quotes in external press releases
- Use of our property as a location for filming or photography
Memorial Sloan Kettering is required by law to protect the privacy of our patients and to maintain the confidentiality of their identity and health-related information. This is our primary consideration when evaluating the potential participation of any public activity.
At times, Memorial Sloan Kettering may decline participation, and the following is taken into consideration:
- Potential disruption of patient care, research, or student activities
- Possible compromise of patient privacy
- Damage to or alteration of our property
- Potential safety hazards
- Adherence to our conflict of interest and other policies that prohibit endorsements
Unfortunately, we are unable to assist students or journalists-in-training with academic assignments because of our inability to allocate limited resources to such projects. In addition, because of the potential disruption to our clinical care areas and possible violation of patient privacy, we are unable to accommodate requests from patients to film, record, photograph, or otherwise chronicle their cancer care experiences, including tests, procedures, treatments, or consultations.
