Kathleen was born in London and grew up between the UK and the US. After deciding a career in classical piano was not for her, she turned to science as the “easier option” and attended the University of Chicago. There, she spent three years working on the protective effects of IL-5 in acute lung injury in the lab of Anne Sperling. She graduated with honors and a BS in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Immunology. Her love for the world’s greatest cities (and the immune system) brought her to New York, where she joined the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis PhD program in 2018. Kathleen’s interest in mucosal immunology and innate immunity landed her in the Hohl lab in the spring of 2019, where she is still trying to learn how to pronounce “fungi,” along with researching the innate immune response to Aspergillus fumigatus. When not in the lab, Kathleen enjoys attending the abundant classical music concerts in New York and eating copious amounts of thin crust pizza.
